  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 apples peeled and cored, sliced
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar syrup
  • 1-1/2 cups water syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg syrup


  1. Combine crust ingredients together to form dough.
  2. Roll out with rolling pin.
  3. Cut dough into four equal portions.
  4. Place 1 apple (sliced) in the center of each dough piece.
  5. Pull dough around apple and press dough to seal.
  6. Place the four apple dumplings in a small baking dish.
  7. Bring sugar, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg to boil.
  8. Pour syrup over dumplings and bake for 35 minutes at 375ºF.
  9. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
