Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 384
Of all the crazy things that have happened this year, the fact the Wednesday Hodgepodge is back is the BEST. THING. EVER! I was so excited I stumbled across it… I am just bummed I missed several weeks of questions!
If you are new to my blog, the Wednesday Hodgepodge is a weekly blog hop where Joyce at From This Side of the Pond asks us some questions. We answer them and then link up on Wednesday. It is so much fun!

Ready? Here we go….
1. The Hodgepodge lands on the second day of a brand new month. Tell us one thing you’re looking forward to in September.
Hmmm. I don’t really “like” September because my brother died in this month 20 years ago. There is that song by Green Day, Wake Me Up When September Ends, that really fits my thoughts on September. However, that being said… I am happy my kids are going back to school. I am happy that my daughter is starting her braces stuff. I am happy for cooler weather. I am happy our kids are having a football (and cheer!) season.
2. Do you enjoy browsing second-hand shops? Last thing you bought or ‘inherited’ second hand?
Yes and no. I love me an antique store. I live for used book stores. But, I have never been one to shop at a second-hand clothes shop. Its not that I don’t like the fact they are used – I just never have any luck and get frustrated when I can’t find anything I like.
I’m not going to lie… I have been holed up at my house for the last several months. But, the one thing that I have bought recently that sticks out is a Dr. Hess egg crate. We found it in an antique shop in Amish Country (Berlin, Ohio.) I was soooooo excited. My maiden name is Hess and I always think it is cool to come across things that have Dr. Hess’ name on it. That trip, I also bought an empty can of Prince Albert tobacco. My grandpa used to smoke this brand back in the day and when I opened it, it smelled like him… so, I bought it.

3. Something you had second thoughts about after committing to, purchasing, or posting/commenting online?
Earlier this year, I traded in my Honda Civic Turbo and bought a Honda CR-V. Then, two months later I was furloughed due to the Corona. Thankfully, I financed it through my credit union and they had a payment forgiveness program. I was freaking out I wouldn’t be able to make the payments!

4. What’s a product or service you use that you’d rate as second to none?
I volunteered to make masks for my daughter’s cheer squad for this football season. I wanted to do black with some sort of bling on them. I came across this shop on Etsy… 6 dollar bling. They have every imaginable design of “bling” you could want! The team mascot is the Tigers, so I bought sparkly paw prints in the school colors.
They were super-quick to ship and they ironed on like a dream. I was seriously impressed with how easy they were to use! I did 30 masks with paw prints and didn’t have any issues whatsoever. It is so nice to buy something like this and it work as well as they intended it to!
5. Something you do so often or that comes so naturally to you it’s second nature ?
I would have to say shutting off lights at my house. The kids leave EVERY. DANG. LIGHT. ON. all the time. Even during the day. I am so used to just sliding my hand down light switches all the time, I don’t even think about it. Last night, I didn’t even have kids… AND the lights were already off, but I still slid my hand down the switch plate as I was walking by. I need to get out more.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I am ready for all the crazy to be over. I want to go back to traveling and being able to eat inside restaurants and not have to wear a mask to shop. I want to be able to stop that thought in the back of my head of “What if I get it? What if the kids get it?” 2020 has sucked. And I am so done with it.
I don’t like looking for clothes for myself at second hand stores but can usually find something for one of my boys.
I’m sorry September is a hard month for you, August is like that for me. I always know the last couple days of July or the first few of August I will just have to stop and cry at some point.
I told a friend it felt like I am somewhat holding my breath waiting/wondering if we will get to continue to go to school as fall/winter comes or we will be shut down again.
Nice to visit you today!
Bethany
It’s nice to see you in the HP today! Are you back to work? I am a huge fan of Etsy and have found the shop owners there to be accommodating and really nice. Hope things settle down soon. I’m so glad your kids will have school and sports happening. What a year!
Oh yeah, I’m ready to be done with all the restrictions. But, I don’t want to be sick either.
I own a Honda CRV–never had any second thoughts on that–we love ours!
I’m so done with masks. I think we are going to drive to Idaho to for my husband’s birthday dinner next week so we can feel normal at a restaurant. They aren’t restricted to the gills like other states are. Love the egg crate!
the masks for the cheerleaders sound so cute!
just went thru the shutting off light here… hubby is more apt at it than I am but I am with you there are 4 kids that live here and I do not believe they never turn a light off
