Top Ten Thanksgiving Foods

I thought I would do something fun today, instead of Simple Sunday.  Really, it’s because I couldn’t think of anything and I have Thanksgiving on the brain.  So, I decided to make a list of my all-time favorite Thanksgiving dishes.. and then throw it out to my readers.  So, here it goes…

  1. Mashed potatoes and gravy.  I am a HUGE mashed potato fan.
  2. Noodles.  We always would have noodles at Thanksgiving.  I was actually shocked to find out other families didn’t!
  3. Green bean casserole.  Enough said.
  4. Sweet potato souffle.  This is a rather new edition to Thanksgiving.  You can get the recipe here.
  5. Pumpkin pie with a HUGE dollop of whip cream.
  6. Homemade stuffing
  7. Turkey, of course!  Not my favorite thing though!
  8. Rolls with strawberry jam.  We always had rolls at my grandpa’s house with strawberry jam he canned himself.  Yummy.
  9. Macaroni and cheese.  Another addition that other families don’t have.
  10. Applesauce.  I always remember my grandma making me applesauce with cinnamon sprinkled on top.

And, these days, we have Thanksgiving on the Saturday after.  On actual Thanksgiving, we have BBQ spareribs and Cowboy Casserole.  We started doing that when the kids were babies… and I think it is a tradition we will carry on.

What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?  Does your family have something out-of-the-ordinary?

  1. turkey, noodles, mashed potatoes, baked beans, brocolli casserole, scalloped oysters, rolls and butter, and pumpkin pie or pecan pie……my mother always brought out her crystal glasses and good china and we had a homemade lace tablecloth that was made by my great grandmother. When done eatting we all went to the livingroom to watch a family style movie….great memories….

  2. Remember the year we watched ET and Donna freaked out about us kids watching it and we all had to go downstairs?

  3. We eat noodles, too! Mrs. Weiss’ Kluski noodles to be exact. Almost every one of my relatives eats their noodles on top of their mashed potatoes, then puts the gravy on top. Heavenly. Can’t wait.

  4. Nana will kill me for sharing this… but you know those noodles in with the blue label? My grandma would always make those… and when they were cooking she would pour in yellow food coloring to make them more yellow so they looked like “egg” noodles. To this day, I can’t figure out how they WEREN’T egg noodles… but, who am I to judge. We are talking BRIGHT yellow… LOL.
