Lilly Bartlett is back again with another fun rom-com book – The Big Dreams Beach Hotel! If you don’t remember, Lilly Bartlett is actually one of my favorite authors – Michele Gorman! The Big Dreams Beach Hotel is a great, feel-good read that would be perfect to read during the upcoming Labor Day weekend!
Rosie left New York and her dream career to manage a faded, run-down Victorian hotel in her hometown. Everything was okay, until the Colonel sells the hotel and the new owners want to turn it into a tropical beach destination with flamingos and wicker furniture! And, the uniforms… yikes! And, what about the cast of characters who call the hotel home? What about the community members that come to the hotel for their social activities? And, don’t forget Rory – the consultant that was hired to “smooth” over the transition to the new owners. What could go wrong? Or right?
One of the amazing things about Michele, as a writer, is her characters – she manages to create characters you can see yourself friends with. They are fun, quirky and lovable. (Well, except for Chuck.) They come alive on the page, and they are far from perfect – they are normal, every day people – usually with a few quirky ones thrown in for fun. Rose, Chef, Cheryl, Jane, Miracle, Peter, Barry, and Lillian all make the story amazingly heart-felt and fun. I laughed. I cried. Then, laughed some more. I may have even called certain characters a few choice names. You can see yourself gathered round the table with the residents and workers at the hotel, while Chef complains and Lillian sings. You cheer them along, laugh at their antics, and feel their sadness and pain.
This is one of my favorite stories from Michele (Lilly) so far. I am sure I say that about all of them, but it is true. Michele is am amazing writer and I am honored every time she asks me to read one of her books – I always know it will be a great read.
I don’t want to spill any of the secrets in the book – I want you to be as surprised as I was. But, definitely grab this book and lose yourself in the drafty old Victorian hotel by the sea Scarborough, fall in love with the characters, and laugh and cry your way through the story. By the time you get to the end, you will be dying to know where it goes from there. Hopefully, Michele has a sequel in the works.
It was this hotel, and everyone in it… these are my friends. It was only because of them that I realized I did have a dream.
The Big Dreams Beach Hotel is out now and is available at Amazon.
