Snuggle Me, Mommy

November 16, 2012

This is one of those conversations I have with my kids that absolutely break my heart.  It makes me want to stay at home full-time– not that we can afford it.  Not that my sanity would handle it.  But, it still hurts every time I have these conversations or when I have to shut the front door to leave for work…

I watch 19 Kids and Counting.  I have to DVR it and watch it when I can.  I love the values they instill in their kids and the belief they have in God.  The other night, I finally was able to watch the most recent episode and in it Jim Bob said something that really hit home.

“These are the best days of our lives and we don’t even know it.”

True dat.

Setting:  One morning last week

Bo:  Mommy, what are you doing?

Me:  Getting ready for work.  What’s up?

Bo:  I love you.

Me:  I love you too.

Bo:  I need to change my underwear.  (We are nighttime potty training).

Me:  Okay, let me help you.

Bo:  Mommy?

Me:  Yes?

Bo:  I am cold.

Me:  Why don’t you go get in mommy and daddy’s bed and warm up.

Bo:  No, mommy, I need you.

Me:  You need me?

Bo:  I need you to snuggle me.

Me:  Buddy, I gotta go to work.  Nana will snuggle you.

Bo:  No, mommy.  You snuggle me.

Me:  I’ll get mommy and Bo’s blanket.  (This is one of those woven blankets.  We got it for our wedding and he has used it since he was a toddler.  He won’t use anything else.)

Bo:  I’ll be on the couch.  Snuggle me.

I was late for work.  I had to snuggle my Bo.

I’m so glad you chose to snuggle. It really is the best time. (I love the Duggers, too, even if sometimes I feel like such a bad parent afterwards.)
