Simple Sunday: #GivingTuesday

As most of my readers know, I am a member of the Global Team of 200.  We are an elite group of women bloggers who are using our blogs for the greater good and discussing issues relating to women, girls and children, as well as world hunger and maternal health.  I’ve mentioned before… you don’t have to donate money, your time is just as important and needed.

Everyone can be great because anyone can serve.
You don’t have to have a college degree to serve.
You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve.
You only need a heart full of grace.  A soul generated by love.
-Martin Luther King, Jr.

For many years, the retail sector has benefited from “Black Friday,” and more recently “Cyber Monday.”  This year, on November 27, 2012, please join me in celebrating #GivingTuesday.   This is a special call to action, a new national day of giving with the idea that the holidays can be both about giving, and giving back.  Both, monetarily and non-monetarily.

#GivingTuesday is a campaign for Americans to contribute to local or national charities, improve their communities, and help create a better world.  This day is also a celebration of YOU.  American’s volunteer, donate to charity, and support more causes than any other population around the world.  #GivingTuesday is a way to foster and celebrate that tradition.

So, how can you help?

  • Launch a special campaign to support your favorite cause
  • Invite your company to match employees’ donations on November 27
  • Create a volunteering initiative
  • Organize a local toy drive, consignment sale, or holiday baked goods sale to raise money for charity
  • Anything else you can think of!

Can you give as good as you get?

Please, help spread the message!
