Simple Sunday: Get Rid of the Dog Pee!

We have an older dog.  She has a certain place in the dining room where she likes to go sometimes.  We all know how that smells and you can’t get the pee out.  My friends, I have found the answer via Pinterest.  I know, right?

The original idea comes from First Home, Love Life.  I adapted it a little for our house– but, either recipe will work.

Ingredients:

  • warm water
  • clear mouthwash
  • Dawn dish detergent

Supplies:

  • Sponge
  • Bowl
  • Newspapers– not colored/slick ads, just black and white print

Mix 2 parts warm water to 1 part mouthwash in the bowl.  Add 3-4 drops Dawn dish detergent and swirl it around.

Dip the sponge in the bowl and squeeze most of the excess out.  You don’t want to completely saturate your carpet and pad, just wet it.  Scrub at the area, rewetting as needed.  Cover with newspapers and allow to dry.

It took two applications for the smell to go away.  But, it truly is a miracle recipe.  The only downside is that the room smells like mouthwash for a couple of days… but, compared to the alternative, it isn’t that bad.

Always, always, always check the mixture in an inconspicuous spot before applying it to a large area.
