Mommy’s Vacation

“It’s 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark… and we’re wearing sunglasses”

Mommy was on vacation in Chicago.  Granted, it was for work.  But it was three days with no cartoons, no one opening the shower curtain and no one interrupting me in the bathroom.

It was wonderful.  Even if I did have to sit in training for two days straight and ride in the car a total of 12 hours.  (Six hours one-way.)

We were in Northbrook at the Sheraton.  All I have to say is WOW.  The people who worked there were so nice, the room was beautiful, the bath amentities were awesome.  The bed was perfect.  This momma was a happy camper.  Especially when I was able to sleep in the center of the beautiful, soft bed… all by myself.

For dinner, we went to Jameson’s steakhouse.  Oh.  My.  I had the best steak ever.  No steak is going to ever compare to this one.  It was a sirloin with parmesean crust.  The sirloin was at least an inch and a half and the crust was another inch.  I literally had to slice it, then cut the slice in half to fit in my mouth.  It melted in your mouth.  The best part is I didn’t have to get up to refill milk, no one was sticking their fingers in my food and asking if they could have a bite.  And, I was able to eat my entire meal hot.

We got back to the hotel and I curled up in bed and worked on the blog and was channel surfing.  I didn’t even know what was on anymore.  I used to be able to rattle off the lineup for TLC and HGTV with no problems.  I actually flipped to the Cartoon Network and watched a little Spongebob before my sanity came back and I flipped back to TLC.  I didn’t have to watch cartoons!

So, what did I do that first night with my new-found freedom?  I went to bed early.  And, it was wonderful.

Do you think I could convince my husband to let me escape like this once a year?  I’m going to work on that.

I didn’t realize I would miss my sticky fingered, messy faced kids so much… but I did.
