Happy Father’s Day – 5 Memories of My Dad

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and all the single moms out there that are pulling double duty.  Father’s Day is rough for me because my dad died several years ago.  Thankfully, I have been blessed with several “dads” who have stepped up to be surrogate dads to me.  You all know who you are and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.  Today, in honor of Father’s Day, I thought I would blog about 5 memories of my Dad… so, here it goes…

  1. The driving-to-bracket-finals-and-we-had-no-money-or-food story.   [Read]
  2. The first time I cussed in front of my dad.  [Read]
  3. Pranks early in the morning. [Read]
  4. Dad, the shower, and the tornado.  [Read]
  5. The night dad tried to cut off his finger.  [Read]

The one thing that has always stuck with me that I learned from my dad was I could be anything and do anything I wanted.  I was never to let being a girl stop me from my dreams.  I’m sure you can tell I was a big daddy’s girl… and I miss him each and every day of my life.  I wish he could have met my children.  I wish he could have seen me graduate.  I wish we could still go racing on Saturday nights.

So, wherever you may be daddy… Happy Father’s Day.  I love you and miss you!

What Is A Dad?

A dad is someone who
wants to catch you before you fall
but instead picks you up,
brushes you off,
and lets you try again.

A dad is someone who
wants to keep you from making mistakes
but instead lets you find your own way,
even though his heart breaks in silence
when you get hurt.

A dad is someone who
holds you when you cry,
scolds you when you break the rules,
shines with pride when you succeed,
and has faith in you even when you fail…

  1. *wiping my tears away* that was a touching post to your dad and I bet he is looking down on you and so proud of you. What a difference a good dad makes in the world.
