Generation X – Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 129

June 12, 2013

It’s time for the Wednesday Hodgepodge.  Hope you are having a great week so far.  Mine’s been nuts with all the craziness at home.  I think I am going to pass myself coming and going.  If you haven’t played before… the Wednesday Hodgepodge is easy.  Just copy and paste the questions to your blog post and answer them.  Come link up and hop around to read the others’ answers.  Super fun!

1. What do you think makes a good dad?

Patience, understanding, a child-like heart, a sense of humor, love, a listening ear… and a “dad” doesn’t have to be a biological dad either.

2.  What’s something you learned from your own father?

My love for all things cars.  I would help my dad work on cars from he time I was really little.  When I was five, I would get the tools he needed out of the toolbox.  When I was 12, I helped rebuild my first engine.  When I was 17, my dad taught me to drag race.  He also taught me how to make a killer omelet.  LOL.

3. It’s your birthday-what kind of cake will we be having?

Ooooooo.  I actually get to pick?!  I would have to say an ice cream cake.

4. When you’re faced with a big decision are you more of a go with your gut type of person, or are you someone who reasons it all out, weighing the pros and cons?

It really depends on what it is involving.  If its a decision to buy something small, I just jump in.  If it is a decision that could affect my future or my kids, I think everything out and weigh out the pros and cons.  However, I have been known to jump in with both feet and ask for forgiveness later.

5. June is National Dairy Month. What’s your favorite dairy item? Most often purchased dairy item?

My favorite dairy item is a toss up between cheese and ice cream.  Mint chocolate chip ice cream to be exact.  The most purchased dairy item in our house is milk.

6. Explorer Jacques Cousteau was born on June 11, 1910….what’s something you’ve recently discovered or something you’d like to explore?

Hmmm.  Guess the most recent thing I have “discovered” is everything about the colon that I didn’t want to know.  But, something I would like to explore would be Carlsbad Caverns or the Grand Canyon floor.

7. Are you typical of your generation?

I think so.  I am a Generation X’r.  I was brought up with videos on MTV, Nancy Reagan telling us to not do drugs, after-school specials telling us to not have sex, and Schoolhouse Rock teaching us English on Saturday mornings.    My generation was bought up to question authority.  To not take no for an answer.  To stand up for what we believe in.  We are individualistic.  Technologically literate.  Flexible.  Value work/life balance.

I found a list of characteristics of my generation here.  It says we are cynical, skeptical, independent, problem-solvers/resourceful, defy authority, reality driven, distasteful of “touchy feely”, technology competent, resistant to hierarchy, and multi-tasking.

So, to answer the question, yes… I am typical of my generation.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I am so far behind… on homework, work-work, house work… I feel like I am drowning.  Last week was really rough with the Hubs in the hospital.  But, it is getting better.
