Adam Brown was a Navy SEAL who woke up on March 17th, 2010 and didn’t know it was his last day to live. He had written a letter to his children that was only to be read if he died and in it said, “I’m not afraid of anything that might happen to me on this earth, because I know no matter what, nothing can take my spirit from me.” Fearless by Eric Blehm chronicles Adam Brown’s life and death. His determination, courage, and very existence were driven by faith, family, and the love of a woman.
Adam Brown battled drug addition to become a Navy SEAL as a member of the elite SIX brotherhood – the group that killed Osama bin Laden. He was a highly trained warrior that sacrificed his very life fearlessly and with God. His life was ended by the multiple AK-47 shots by the Taliban in an isolated military clinic in Afghanistan. He was a small-town, American boy who was fearless and had an addiction to hard drugs. While in a dirty jail cell in Arkansas, he found Jesus and his life took a different path.
This book was eye-opening and compelling – I couldn’t put it down once I started reading it. The sacrifices that the military make on a daily basis are numerous, but the sacrifices that the elite members of the various special groups are even more so. Fearless was a testament to what the power of Jesus Christ can do in a person’s life.
Adam Brown lost his life and went home to Jesus protecting his team from enemy gunfire. He diverted the enemy’s attention to himself and allowed his team to eliminate the threat. He paid the ultimate price. Interestingly, a few months later, most of the rest of the team also died when their helicopter was shot down.
Even if you are not into military books, I encourage you to read Fearless by Eric Blehm. It is not only a military book, but is the biography of a Christian man we made the ultimate sacrifice for his brothers and for his country. It gives you a new-found respect for the military – those individuals put their lives in danger on a daily basis to keep ourselves and loved ones safe from harm. It gives you a new-found respect for the sacrifices made for others. It gives you a new-found respect for the love of Christ and what can happen when you give your life to Jesus.
