Date Night With Breyers Gelato

October 1, 2015

Let’s face it – when you have kids, date nights are few and far between.  As busy parents of 6 year-old twins, we have to improvise.  Sometimes, date night is dinner out or heading out to the dirt track, or sitting on the couch watching football.  When I was given a chance to try Breyers® Gelato Indulgences™ for Don and I’s next date night, I kinda chuckled to myself.  Really?  Ice cream?  Boy, was I wrong.  As Breyers® says, “Its way beyond ice cream.”

I have never tried gelato prior to trying Breyers’.  It comes in several flavors: Vanilla Caramel, Raspberry Cheesecake, Tiramisu, Triple Chocolate, Cappuccino, Strawberry Truffle, Mint Chocolate and Chocolate Caramel.  I wasn’t sure I was even going to like it.  As I stood in front of the freezer section cooling off choosing which ones to try, I decided on tiramisu and raspberry cheesecake.

I am going to be honest.  I had plans to stage the perfect picnic date.  Except it rained.  And it was during a football game.  We literally sat side-by-side on the couch and ate our gelato.  But, sometimes that is what happens when you are a parent.

Want a science lesson?

While we were sitting there, I looked up gelato.  Do you know what the difference between ice cream and gelato is?

Gelato is made similar to ice cream.  It contains milk, sugar, and cream.  But gelato is usually less dense and contains less fat than regular ice cream.  Because gelato is made with more milk than cream and is churned slower than regular ice cream. Some say this is what gives gelato it’s intense flavor.  Gelato is also best served a little warmer than ice cream… sit it on the counter for 5 minutes or so prior to scooping it out.  Your tastebuds will thank you.

Science lesson over.  Just thought it was interesting…

I can officially admit I am hooked to Breyers® Gelato Indulgences™.  The raspberry cheesecake is creamy and so delicious… it has cheesecake gelato with graham cracker pieces and raspberry sauce.  Oh my.  But wait, the tiramisu is even better… mascarpone gelato, espresso sauce, ladyfinger pieces, and cocoa.  Double oh my.  I have been “sneaking” bites straight from the freezer while making dinner… it is THAT good.

And, the bonus of eating Breyers® Gelato Indulgences™ is that I didn’t need to eat as much to get that sweet taste I was craving.  I was satisfied with just a 1/2 cup or so… not the entire carton.

So, while our date night wasn’t what I had planned or even very romantic, it was made extra special by Breyer’s delicious gelato.  I highly recommend you try some for your next date night. Or football game.  Or anytime.  I can’t wait to try the other flavors.  Mint Chocolate or Chocolate Caramel anyone?

Just a note… at our local store, Breyers® Gelato Indulgences™ were not with the Breyers ice cream.  They were further down, near the “novelties” section.  So, if you don’t see them, keep looking!

This mom would give two thumbs up, but I am too busy holding my spoon in one hand and my bowl in the other.

I love Gelato! I have trouble keeping myself to just 1/2 cup though. I did not know that it contained less fat than ice cream so, maybe I won’t feel too guilty next time I indulge!! I may try this brand next time. It sounds good – DG
