Cones for the Cure = Free Ice Cream!
Today is the start of a two-week campaign between The Cure Starts Now and Graters! At participating Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Lexington, Louisville, and Indianapolis Grater’s locations you can donate a $1 or $5 “Cone for the Cure”. For every $5 donation, Graters will give you a $15 savings booklet! But, wait… keep reading… it gets better!
Twice during the campaign, Graters will be offering free cones of Elena’s Blueberry Pie ice cream! But, they won’t be announced until just before the free ice cream days! So, make sure you keep reading my blog for the dates, as well as “like” Cones for the Cure on Facebook to get the “inside scoop” on the free ice cream days, giveaways, and more!
This year, Walgreens has also teamed up with Cones for the Cure! From September 18th – September 30th, shoppers can donate $1 or $5 to Cones for the Cure at checkout! How cool! Note, this is only for Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus area stores!
Last year, with your help, over $52,000 was raised during the two week campaign!
What is The Cure Starts Now?
In 2007, The Cure Starts Now was created to honor a 6-year old girl named Elena who lost her battle with pediatric brain cancer. The foundation has revolutionized cancer research worldwide. In the last seven years, The Cure Starts Now has raised over $2 million for pediatric brain cancer research!
The Cure Starts Now is making a difference in the fight against cancer. They have been recognized by The Today Show, Good Morning America, CNN, People Magazine, Inside Edition, and through media outlets worldwide!
But why ice cream?
As part of The Cure Starts Now’s annual gala, Graeter’s donated a wish that was won by the Groteke family. In 2008, the Groteke’s invented the blueberry pie flavor and it has become known as Elena’s Blueberry Pie. The design on the pint is a heart painting that was made by Elena. For every scoop of Elena’s Blueberry Pie purchased, a portion of the proceeds goes to The Cure Starts Now.

I encourage you to stop by Graters and Walgreens and donate a $1 or $5 to The Cure Starts Now. Grab yourself a pint of Elena’s Blueberry Pie while you are there! And, make sure you keep your eyes open for the date of the first free cone day at Graters!

The Cure Starts Now’s mission is one that knows no boundaries and stops at no borders. It is an international effort of families, friends, businesses and even strangers, united in the desire to cure cancer, one child at a time. And it all started with one child, but today the inspiration is carried with us all.

What a great fundraiser, and it makes me wish I lived in those areas.
