College and Reality TV

What day is it?  What day is it?  Anyone?  Bueller?  It’s Hump Day!  And, Hodgepodge Wednesday!  Today, you will learn my opinion on college and reality TV and the cool thing that happened to me Monday night.  So, this is a crazy-fun blog hop where you answer some questions, link up on Wednesdays and have some fun hopping around reading other blogs!  So, let’s go!

1. What’s your worst food memory?  How about one of your best?

Oh.  My.  Goodness.  It was eating rattlesnake with the skin still on it at Girl Scout Camp.  UGH.  I can still taste it in my mouth.  I ended up spitting it out and then tossing it into the grass and got in trouble by one of the leaders.  Crazy people.  I even tried to tell them I was allergic to rattlesnake.  LOL.  The sad thing is… my mom was there at camp with me.  And, I still had to do it.

My best food memory was at this hole-in-the-wall Mexican place in Sedona, Arizona.  It was a dive.  We walked in and NO ONE spoke English and the menus were in Spanish.  I recognized carnitas on the menu and ordered for all of us.  THE BEST MEAL EVER.  They were pork tacos with the BEST pico de gallo ever.  EVER.  Let me put it to you this way… if I was on death row– these tacos and a couple sets of crab legs would be my last meal.

2. Do you appreciate people telling it like it is, or would you rather a speaker temper his/her words and maybe beat around the bush a little?  How about when you’re the one communicating…which type are you?

It would depend on what they were telling me.  Some people do not have a good delivery of their opinion, it comes across very critical and condescending.

3. What’s your favorite place to hang out?

Anywhere with my kids.  Home.  Park.  Vacation.  Restaurant.

4. When do you most feel like you’re a slave to time?

When I am at work– I can’t ever seem to find enough time.

5. What was the last concert you attended?  Who’d you go with? Was it any good?

Eric Clapton, baby!  Went with the Hubs, but we were dating then.  It was amazing!

6. Reality TV…harmful or harmless?  What’s your guilty pleasure when it comes to reality TV?

I am not into the fake-reality television.  I do like the ones where it is real people living their lives– without all the drama.  I don’t like Honey Boo Boo or anything like that.  However, I do like Mountain Men, American Pickers, and Fast and Loud–  and my guilty reality TV is Pawn Stars.

7. What’s something you think is overrated?

Reality TV.  LOL.  Just kidding.  I hate to say this (kids, stop reading right now)… College right out of high school.  I went to college right out of high school and dropped out.  Went to a community college and dropped out.  I began working and a few years later went back to college for my associates degree in accounting… and I am not working on my Master’s.  That being said, I do think college is very important, however not necessarily right out of high school for all kids.  I would have been better off going straight to work and then going back to school in a couple of years.  Besides, if I hadn’t dropped out, I wouldn’t be an accountant.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

So, yesterday, I was leaving work and pulled up to a four-way stop close in town and the Google Street-View Car was coming towards me!  How sweet was that!  He gave me the thumbs up when he passed me, so I waved.  I checked last night to see if my picture was on Google Maps at the intersection, but nothing so far.

  1. I think someone in my neighborhood works for Google Streetmaps. I see the car parked on the street all the time.
Rattlesnake with skin on? And they made you eat it? Shame on them.
BTW, I think it might be time for you and your honey to take in another concert 🙂

  2. I love the story about the Mexican food!! I never thought about a “last meal” but that really sold it for me – ha ha!! I completely agree about college. My stepson is about to go and my Lord he should definitely NOT be going. He’s sooooo not ready. And, what the heck is a Google-street view car? I mean, I get what it does but I don’t think I would recognize one if I saw it!!

  3. My girls went to an International High School in the UK and so many of their classmates took a gap year out of highschool, deferring university for a year. I think for some its a good option, as long as they have a plan to fill that time with something productive. In my opinion travel is productive, but many worked their way around some interesting spots. Independent travel is a big confidence booster!

  4. The Google Street View Car?!?! That would be like seeing the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile in your neighborhood! Very, very cool! Let us know if you see yourself on Google maps!

  5. you want your children to experience things in life that does not harm them. having you eat rattlesnake at girl scout camp just showed you that if you are ever stranded in the mountains, forests, wherever. you can catch a rattlesnake and still eat….since i wasnt invited to your dinner we at our dinner table was eatting chocolate covered ants! which would you have chose?

The google map car is awesome maybe you will be in the picture…. how cool would that be. Ahhh yes the clapton concert was awesome as was the atmosphere around us.

  7. Yes you would… it’s Google. Of course, its all painted up! And, it has this HUGE pole on top with what looks like a bowling ball — I guess its the cameras maybe! I was like WTF is that when it was coming toward me.

  8. Do they even still have the Wienermobile? I haven’t seen that in years!

  9. Chocolate covered bugs has to be better than freaking rattlesnake. Seriously, like I’d be able to catch a rattlesnake… and who would actually have meltable chocolate with them to cover some flipping ants?

  10. That’s because we were the only ones not stoned.

  11. Mandy Jenkins says:

I saw the Google car too! Actually passed it twice
