4th of July Mantle Decor with Oriental Trading

Do you ever look at your mantle and think, “I’d love to decorate that for the holidays, but its just too expensive?”  That was me.  On Pinterest, I would see all these fabulous mantle decor ideas – but the items they were using were WAY out of my budget.  I decided to see what I could do with a budget, some items I already had, and a little bit of creativity – and this is what I came up with.

Disclosure: I got these products as part of an advertorial.

Most of us are not trying to be featured in a popular home magazine, we just want to decorate for a holiday or season.  Don’t be afraid to use what you already have, even if it isn’t considered “traditional” decor.  Below, I used the flag that was draped on my father’s casket.  Not normally something you would see as a focal point in a mantle display, but it fit my theme.  The burlap banner is a party decoration from Oriental Trading, but with a pair of scissors (it was too long), nails, and a hammer – I had a burlap banner for my mantle.

Don’t be afraid to pull items from other rooms.  The gold stars have been in my dining room for years – but, they fit the theme so I pulled them into the design.  Never be afraid to think outside the box to get the look you are going for.  Toys, kitchen items, memorabilia – it’s all fair game!  Let your mantle reflect your personality and decor style.
