Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 232

Happy Wednesday ya’ll!  Can you believe August is halfway over and school is starting?  Yikes!  Where did summer go?  Since it is Wednesday, it is time for Joyce’s infamous hop – The Wednesday Hodgepodge.  The Hodgepodge is a fun mix (get it?) of questions that we answer on our blogs and then readers can hop around and read everyone else’s answers.  Ready?  Let’s go!

1. Way back when (the Hodgepodge bicentennial to be precise) several of you submitted questions as part of a giveaway I was hosting. I went back to that list for inspiration today and found a question submitted by Marla, who blogs over at Marla’s Musings. Thanks Marla!

She asks-At what age did you feel like a ‘grown-up’? What keeps you young now?

This is so dumb… because I have had kids late, am on my second house, and have earned three degrees – but what made me feel like a grownup was actually going to a furniture store and picking out new furniture about two years ago.  We had never had new, never used furniture – we always had hand-me-downs.  So, the fact that I was financially able to buy furniture and picked out what I wanted made me feel so grownup.  My kids keep me young.

2. When did you last buy a vehicle? Was this by design or because you had no other option? Was the car/truck purchased for your own personal use or was it bought for someone else to drive? On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being delightful and 1 being ‘pass the Excedrin’) how would you rate the experience?

This past January I bought a brand new Honda Accord.  I had to have a replacement for my crappy minivan because it kept breaking down and falling apart.  The last straw was when it died coming through an intersection and there was a semi behind me and the kids.  Granted, it was out of gas but the fuel gauge registered 1/8 tank.  (And, to make matters worse I literally was a block from the gas station.)  It was about a 5.  We had a great sales person but the whole paperwork thing is annoying because I worked for a car dealership for 7+ years.

3. Corn bread, corn chips, corn pudding, corn on the cob, cornflakes, corn chowder-your favorite of the corn-y foods listed? What needs to be served alongside your selection?

Hmmmm.  I’d have to say either corn bread or corn on the cob.  My cornbread I like crumbled in a bowl with just enough milk to wet it and sugar on top.  My corn on the cob I like beside a piece of chicken or a pork chop from the grill.

4. What’s something in your life that regularly requires you to ‘put your thinking cap on’?

Every single conversation with my kids.

5. Share a favorite movie set in a school or classroom, or whose theme relates to school days in some way.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off when Uber Dork (Ben Stein) says, “Bueller?  Bueller?….”  I say Bueller all the time.

6. Reading, writing, and ‘rithmatic’ are commonly referred to as the three R’s. What are the three R’s in your life right now?

Reading, reading and reading.

7. What’s something you’ve learned or tried recently you can say was as ‘easy as ABC’?

I have been trying to learn various Zentangle patterns and I recently tried one that looked extremely hard but was super easy… I even said outloud, “that was easy.”

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I am having a peer review audit this week and I am so ready for them to leave.  They are super nice and helpful, but I no sooner get into something of my normal job and then one of them needs a question answered, paperwork, or something else.  To top that off, it seems every employee we have has an issue this week… its like Grand Central Station in my office.  I just want things back to normal.

  1. I’ve never had a peer review. Sounds scary, but also interesting, as well as disgust-producing! Hope it gets better and your work-life returns to normal soon!
