Today starts the annual two week campaign for Cones for the Cure in conjunction with Graeter’s Ice Cream. Participating Graeter’s locations in Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Lexington, Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Chicago will help The Cure Starts Now find a cure for pediatric brain cancer and all cancers.
Graeter’s will be giving away free scoops of Elena’s Blueberry Pie ice cream to customers twice during the next two weeks. Guests that visit Graeter’s during the campaign can donate $1 or $5 for a “Cone for the Cure.” For every $5 donation, a $20 savings booklet will be given by Graeters. And, while enjoying your Graeter’s ice cream, take a selfie with your cone. Share your photo on social media and hashtag it #conesforthecure!

As I mentioned, during the campaign, Graters will be offering free cones of Elena’s Blueberry Pie ice cream! But, they won’t be announced until just before the free ice cream days! So, make sure you keep reading my blog for the dates, as well as “like” Cones for the Cure on Facebook to get the “inside scoop” on the free ice cream days, giveaways, and more!
WHAT IS THE CURE STARTS NOW?
In 2007, The Cure Starts Now was created to honor a 6-year old girl named Elena who lost her battle with pediatric brain cancer. The foundation has revolutionized cancer research worldwide with 31 chapters in 3 countries, assisting with research funding for all cancers.
The Cure Starts Now is making a real difference in the fight against cancer – since 2007, they have funded $7.3 million in pediatric brain cancer research! They have been recognized by The Today Show, Good Morning America, CNN, People Magazine, Inside Edition, and through media outlets worldwide! Last year, in the annual two week campaign, over $136,000 was raised! To date, over $459,000 has been raised during the Cones for the Cure campaign.
BUT WHY ICE CREAM?
As part of The Cure Starts Now’s annual gala, Graeter’s donated a wish that was won by the Groteke family. In 2008, the Groteke family developed the blueberry pie flavor and it became known as Elena’s Blueberry Pie. The design on the pint container is a heart painting that was drawn by Elena. For every scoop of Elena’s Blueberry Pie purchased, a portion of the proceeds goes to The Cure Starts Now.
I encourage you to stop by Graters and donate a $1 or $5 to The Cure Starts Now. Grab yourself a pint of Elena’s Blueberry Pie while you are there! And, make sure you keep your eyes open for the date of the first free cone day at Graters! And, don’t forget to share a photo of you and your ice cream on social media with #conesforthecure.
