Growing up, we didn’t have a lot of extra money. So, one of my family’s favorite things to do was to go to the lake and have a supermarket picnic. Sometimes, we called them poor man picnics. Basically, you just run into a store and buy the fixin’s for a picnic, throw everything into the cooler and head to the lake or whatever your destination is.
A few weeks ago, on a Saturday I suggested this to the Hubs and we headed up north to a park that the kids love. We stopped at a small market on the way and picked up some lunch meat, buns, chips, dip, and Lunchables for the kids (they don’t believe us when we tell them its lunch meat and its better out of the deli!) We got to the park and asked the kids if they wanted to sit at a picnic table or on the ground… Mo replied, “You sit on the ground mommy, it’s a picnic.” So, on the ground we sat.
Afterwards, we let the kids play on the playground equipment. There was another little girl there that shared her bubbles with all the other kids. We then ended up leaving there and going to another park because some of the older kids were playing too rough and obnoxious. Even daddy got on the playground equipment!
And, for the record… Bo doesn’t wear glasses now. He popped the tinted lens out of his sunglasses and insisted on continuing to wear them. All day.
